WITH less than three days remaining in the NAB AFL Trade Period, it appears a number of deals are getting close to being finalised.
Getting Dayne Beams to the Brisbane Lions could be the catalyst for a number of other trades to be completed as Levi Greenwood, Travis Varcoe, Mitch Clark and Heritier Lumumba all look to find new homes.
The Giants and Bulldogs are still negotiating over the respective futures of Tom Boyd and Ryan Griffen, while a Hawthorn defender might be on the move.
Beams on the brink
TODAY could finally be the day Dayne Beams becomes a Brisbane Lion.
Just four days after Collingwood appeared to slam the door on his requested move north, Beams looks like getting there with the help of a young Lion.
AFL.com.au understands the willingness of 21-year-old Jack Crisp to return to his hometown of Melbourne has helped facilitate a trade that looked a stalemate for so long.
Crisp took a medical screening and toured the Westpac Centre facilities on Monday.
Crisp would go to the Magpies along with the Brisbane Lions' first and second-round picks in November's NAB AFL Draft, currently No.5 and No.25.
Collingwood would then be free to secure Levi Greenwood with pick No.25 going to North Melbourne.
If the Beams deal is complete, it could pave the way for a three-way trade that sends Heritier Lumumba to Melbourne, Mitch Clark to Geelong and Travis Varcoe to the Magpies.
Jaksch, Whiley set to join Carlton
It also appears likely young Giants forward Kristian Jaksch and his midfield teammate Mark Whiley are poised to become Blues.
Whiley, the tall midfielder who has played 12 games in three seasons for the Giants, is the missing piece to get the trade over the line.
The Age reported Whiley's manager met Carlton on Monday.
It is expected that Jaksch, Whiley and the Giants' No.19 pick in the upcoming NAB AFL Draft would be sent to Carlton in exchange for pick No.7.
The Giants would then have picks No.4 and No.7 in the draft.
Giants holding firm on Boyd
After yesterday's dramatic development when young GWS forward Tom Boyd requested a trade to the Western Bulldogs, there appears little movement from either camp.
AFL.com.au understands the former No.1 draft pick has been offered a multi-year deal worth more than $1 million a year.
However, the Giants have not budged from their initial position of being unwilling to trade Boyd – who has a year remaining on his contract - under any circumstances.
The Bulldogs are hopeful of a straight swap for disgruntled skipper Ryan Griffen, who requested a move to western Sydney last week.
Another veteran Bulldog could also be on his way out of the Kennel, with Adam Cooney attracting interest from North Melbourne and Essendon.
The Herald Sun is reporting the Bulldogs could be prepared to pay part of the 2008 Brownlow medalist's salary to help facilitate a move.
Giants ruckman Jonathan Giles is set to choose between Essendon and Adelaide as he seeks greater opportunity.
Hawk to fly west? But not too far
Despite saying he was prepared to fight for his spot in the stacked Hawthorn team, key position prospect Ryan Schoenmakers is being shopped around.
Schoenmakers appears to have slipped down the backline pecking order at the Hawks after the inclusion of free agent James Frawley, and the premiers are looking at offers to move him.
It has been reported that both Fremantle and Adelaide are interested, but AFL.com.au understands the Dockers are unlikely to trade for him.
One-game ruckman Luke Lowden is also deciding on his future.
The Herald Sun reported Lowden is deciding between Essendon and Adelaide, with the Bombers putting him through a medical test on Monday.
