Enjoy this, but we’re not done yet.
That was senior coach Luke Beveridge’s message to his team almost immediately after Friday night’s mighty semi-final win over Hawthorn in from of 87,823 fans at the MCG.
Speaking with SEN radio on Saturday morning Beveridge said he had implored his players to treat the coming challenge like a mini-grand final.
“There’s no doubt we’re locked into thinking about what could be and straight away we talked about the GWS game coming up, which we don’t normally do in the home and away season,” Beveridge said.
“But I just thought it was right to make sure they were aware of what time we were playing and to treat this one like a mini-grand final again.”
The Bulldogs have not played off in a Grand Final since 1961, but though his side had a keen sense of history, Beveridge said they were keen to forge their own identity.
“Last week was a real milestone in winning a final together and this is a new group," he said.
“They admire all of the personalities and great players that have played for the Club but we’re well aware that we don’t have a lot of silverware in the cupboard.”
