Footscray are knocking on the door of the VFL top 8 after holding off a surging Werribee side on Sunday afternoon.
The Scray were able to withstand a late charge which saw the home side come within 8 points, after the Dogs had led by as much as 58 points during the early part of the third quarter.
Josh Schache kicked three goals, while co-captain Angus Monfries, Nathan Mullenger-McHugh and Will Hayes contributed two goals each.
The successful return of defenders Dale Morris and Marcus Adams from injury was a welcome sight for Footscray fans.
It was Morris’ first game since sustaIning a partial ACL tear earlier in the year, while Adams was returning from an ankle ligament injury suffered in the pre-season.
Footscray will face Collingwood at VU Whitten Oval next Saturday.
