In a boost to the AFL and the Western Region the Saltwater Reserve Synthetic Oval in Point Cook was officially opened this week with a number of Western Bulldogs players in attendance.

Eight players held a clinic on the synthetic oval with Lumen Christi Catholic Primary School including Adam Cooney, Ryan Hargrave, Shaun Higgins, Andrew Hooper, Brian Lake, Brodie Moles, James Mulligan and Tom Williams.

The project worth $2.1million was jointly funded by the AFL, Wyndham City, Cricket Australia, Cricket Victoria and Sports and Recreation Victoria as part of the development of the Saltwater Reserve.

When completed the full sized synthetic turf AFL and Cricket oval will become part of a 22 hectare regional sports precinct complimented by soccer fields, tennis and basketball half courts and a vast amount of open space.

The public reserve is an exciting opportunity for residents not only in Wyndham but also in the greater western region.

The Synthetic oval is built to endure the toughest of conditions and will provide a suitable oval all year long.
