The Western Bulldogs’ were quickly put to the test against Richmond, with a goal scored from the Tiger’s first kick. The away side quickly responded through a Liam Jones goal to even the score - and soon after added a second to his name.

Richmond’s inability to convert shots on goal kept the Bulldogs in striking range for much of the quarter before they extended their lead to over two goals on the siren. 

The Tigers monopolized the clearances early, allowing them to control the state of play, however the Bulldogs worked hard to pressure and regain momentum.

It is only fitting that Daniel Cross was the standout Bulldogs player in the first quarter of his 200th career game. The veteran was quick to demonstrate his worth, setting up Liam Jones for his first goal in the opening minutes of the quarter. Leading the Bulldogs possession count

WB vs Rich Match Breakdown: Second Quarter Analysis 

Key Plays

Richmond continued to dominate the play with two quick goals early in the second term. 

The intensity was higher from both teams from the first quarter, as the Bulldogs tried to gain momentum and move the ball forward. 

Jordan Roughead, Dale Morris and Tom Young battled hard for the entire quarter as the ball continued to enter Richmond forward line. 

A clever passage of play from Luke Dahlhaus and Adam Cooney saw the Bulldogs kick their first goal for the quarter, which looked to give their side confidence. 

The goal became a turning point in the quarter with the remaining of the quarter being played in the Dogs attacking half.  

Player of the quarter

The continued form of Adam Cooney in the back six was greatly beneficial against an attacking Richmond outfit. His run and rebound out of the Bulldogs defensive half made a big impact while his clever goal halfway through the term helped lift the entire team.
