Adam Cooney has been ruled out of the Western Bulldogs clash against Gold Coast Suns after being a late withdrawal from Sunday’s game.

Medical Services Manager Andrew McKenzie confirmed that Cooney pulled up sore with knee swelling on Sunday morning and will not line up for the Bulldogs in Darwin this Saturday night.

“[Cooney] obviously missed the game [on Sunday] and we are going to have to get some swelling out of the knee so we will do that this week - he will hopefully be available for Geelong,” McKenzie said.

In more positive news defender Christian Howard is likely to be in the selection mix after spending six weeks on the sidelines rehabilitating a knee injury that he incurred in round one.

“[Howard] is coming back from an MCL injury - he has trained the last couple of weeks and he is moving really well, he is moving really freely so we are looking forward to seeing him back on the park,” he said.

Key defender Lukas Markovic is still a few weeks away after injuring his hamstring while another defender on the sidelines Tom Williams is making progress with his shoulder injury.

“[Williams] is going really well he’s had a really good step up this week with his weights - he has had the all clear from his surgeon to start doing that,” McKenzie said.

“He is getting strong and we are looking for a good second half of the year from Tom - get him big.”

Williams looks to be six weeks away if he continues to progress as anticipated.
