WESTERN Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade has scoffed at his St Kilda counterpart Ross Lyon's suggestion the Dogs will take an advantage into Saturday night's clash at Docklands because of an extra day's break.

Lyon said it would be "a big ask" for his players to regroup after their Sunday twilight match against Adelaide to face the Bulldogs, who played on Friday night against Essendon.

Eade said history – as recently as last weekend – had proven that the length between matches was often an irrelevant factor in deciding games.

"I think teams will be able to play [after] six-day breaks," he said on Tuesday.

"You have a look at Hawthorn last week – they had a six-day break and Collingwood had an eight and [the Hawks] won by seven goals.

"I don't think that's going to be an issue on the weekend.

"Six-day breaks are more of an issue if you get back-to-back – if you get two in a row, then it can affect you, but one six-day break is not an issue as proven by Hawthorn last week."

Eade agreed his side would enter the match against the ladder leaders in almost the best shape it could, with eight wins from its past 10 starts and an almost non-existent injury list.

"Certainly the players have got confidence in their bodies and fitness level," he said.

"We've proved we run the games out very well. Our form line has been good for 10 weeks now; we've only lost two games, by two points and one point against top-four sides.

"Asking if it's the right time or not [to play the Saints], I don't know when it is the right time, but certainly the guys' confidence is up and we're looking forward to the challenge."

He said he didn't subscribe to the theory the Saints were simply due for a loss owing to their 16-game winning streak.

"They're not ripe for the picking when they beat a top-four team by 10 goals. Their form's pretty good," he said.

He also said the Dogs would have to match St Kilda in the contested ball if they were to reverse the 28-point defeat they were handed when the two sides met in round six.

"Obviously their pressure's very good and you've just got to match the intensity," he said.

"It's going to be like the St Kilda-Geelong game, where there's not much free space for either team.

"I think it's going to be like that, a fairly physical game, and we need to match them in that area and we need to be able to win the ball.

"We'll need to be able to win that hard ball, which we've been reasonable at. We certainly need to bring that to the game on Saturday night."

St Kilda forward Justin Koschitzke will miss the match after accepting a one-match suspension for striking.

Eade said he wasn't concerned about the absence of the Saints' second-highest goal-kicker.

"I don't make anything of it. He's missing. Teams have good players out," he said.

"When we played Geelong, we had [Ryan] Hargrave and [Robert] Murphy not play. Teams cope with players out, so you just move on."

Daniel Giansiracusa remains on track for a round 21 return at Williamstown, while Eade said Dylan Addison, Tim Callan, Andrejs Everitt and Sam Reid were adding depth to the squad with strong performances in the VFL.
