Western Bulldogs’ midfielder Lin Jong will miss up to two weeks after fracturing his hand in the Dogs’ round five win against Sydney.
Suffering the injury in the final quarter, Jong played out the remainder of the game but Bulldogs’ General Manager of Football Graham Lowe says the the young Dog will undergo minor surgery.
“He did do his hand and it’s a small fracture that we’ve sought specialist advice on and we think the right thing to do is to stabilise it which he’ll have done this afternoon.
“So we’ll expect him to miss the next one to two weeks.”
The Bulldogs were otherwise unscathed, following a testing day in wet conditions.
“A good, tough physical battle obviously and great to get the result,” said Lowe.
“We’ve come up pretty well certainly considering it was a tough battled in tough conditions against a really strong team so we’re really pleased with how the players have turned up this morning.”
Sam Darley will continue to progress with his rehabilitation after a minor hamstring injury.
“We just wanted to make sure that we build his rehab right and progress so that he’s in a good place to come back to play which we expect to see in the next couple of weeks.”
Shane Biggs played a full game for Footscray on Saturday, collecting 30 disposals, and pulled up well after being on modified game time in previous weeks.
“Shane’s built up his load and his game time really well, so he had a full game on the weekend and came through really well… He’s putting himself in a good position to put his hand up.”
Zaine Cordy and Caleb Daniel are both progressing well through their individual rehabilitation, with a view for both to be back in full training this week.
“Zaine’s had obviously a full shoulder reconstruction that he’s been working through and he’s progressed really well through his rehab and he’ll be returning to full training at the back end of this week with a view to get him back on the field in the next two to three weeks.
“Caleb’s obviously a young player but he’s progressed really well through his rehab, he’s put himself in a position to be back out on the track, he’s full training in the back end of this week, with a view to making himself available for selection after that.”
