While Western Bulldogs supporters are basking in their Club’s 4-1 start to the season, Luke Dahlhaus says the playing group’s focus has to quickly switch to their round six match against St Kilda on Saturday.
The Dogs have enjoyed a wave of emotion after a heart-stopping four point win against last year’s grand finalist but Dahlhaus says the attention now shifts to the Saints.
“It was obviously a great win on Saturday, we’re absolutely stoked… To go up to the SCG and get a win like that, it’s probably the best win I’ve been involved in but on to next week now and on to the Saints.”
The Dogs will now face the challenge of maintaining the weekend’s form and carrying it through to next week, particularly after such trying conditions in the Sydney rain but Dahlhaus is confident his side will back up their efforts on Saturday afternoon.
“We just play it week by week… we’ll have the same game plan, nothing changes… so we’re going to go out there and just do the same thing and get a win on the board.
“It’s like every week, even after a bad loss or a good win, you have to come out with the same mindset and we’re going to come out firing… and we can’t wait.”
Dahlhaus’ individual performance this season has matched his side’s momentum, with more time in the midfield paying off for the 23-year-old.
Averaging 25 disposals, 12 contested possessions and four clearances a game, Dahlhaus currently sits third in the competition for tackles – highlighting how well-rounded his game has become.
“I’ve worked pretty hard, I worked really hard over the pre-season and the last couple of pre-seasons on my fitness… so I could get a bit more time in the midfield.
“You’re working hard every day at AFL clubs so hopefully I can get better and better every day.”
