The Western Bulldogs will partner with anti-domestic violence campaigners, White Ribbon to help address the growing problem of men’s violence against women in our community.
The partnership will see the Bulldogs leverage their Round 13 (June 18th) Saturday night prime clash against Geelong to highlight the devastating impact of men’s violence against women.
The Western Bulldogs will wear a guernsey featuring the anti-violence campaign’s signature White Ribbon for the match.
The Dogs will conduct a six week campaign to promote respectful and safe relationships from Round 13 to Round 19 when the Dogs will again take on the Cats under lights at Simonds Stadium on White Ribbon Night (July 29).
The Club will kick off the partnership today at the White Ribbon community BBQ at Etihad Stadium to mark White Ribbon Day.
Up to 300 people are expected to join Club representatives including Luke Beveridge, Matthew Boyd and Marcus Bontempelli at the event.
Western Bulldogs Chief Executive Officer, David Stevenson said that the Club was proud to partner with White Ribbon to help address the growing problem of men’s violence against women in our community.
“On average, one woman is killed every week in Australia, as a result of intimate partner violence”.
“Last year alone there were 9,000 reported incidents of violence against women in Melbourne’s West, our backyard.”
“Clearly this is unacceptable and as a leader in our community the Western Bulldogs must do everything we can to send the message that men’s violence against women will not be tolerated and stop this horrific cycle of violence”.
“Football clubs have a unique opportunity to affect change in the broader community and we hope that we can use our big Saturday night clash against the Cats to highlight this issue to a national audience and get men in particular thinking about what they can do to help tackle violence against women”.
The Bulldogs partnership with White Ribbon Australia builds on a two year relationship established between the two organisations that sees White Ribbon deliver education sessions as part of the Clubs ground breaking Sons of the West men’s health program.
White Ribbon is Australia’s only national, male led Campaign to end men’s violence against women.
