Veteran Western Bulldogs defender Matthew Boyd has signed a one year contract extension with the Club, extending his time at the Kennel into a 15th season.
The battle-hardened Boyd played 24 games for the Bulldogs in 2016, including the grand final, and was rewarded with his third All-Australian selection.
Boyd’s selection capped off a late-career resurgence, the 34-year-old averaging 27.9 disposals playing off of half back at 79% efficiency, his highest per-game average since the 2013 season.
Boyd led the Club in metres gained in 2016, averaging 471.2 per-contest, 87 more than Lachie Hunter, his closest teammate and ranked sixth in the AFL for rebound 50s.
“Matthew Boyd has been an extraordinary servant to our Club for many years,” List Manger Jason McCartney said.
“To contribute the way he did in his 14th season, is testament to his hard work and professionalism.”
“We’re really pleased Matthew will continue playing with us in 2017.”
Boyd was taken at selection no. 23 in the 2001 AFL Rookie Draft.
