With just over a week until the beginning of the 2016 AFL premiership season, it’s the question on every Bulldogs fan’s mind: Can the Dogs sustain last year’s momentum?
The Age’s footy experts have weighed in on how they see the new season playing out, and although no one has tipped a Dogs flag, they have suggested there are a few of the major awards might be heading out to the kennel.
The Verdict
Matthew Lloyd – Fifth
“The Bulldogs were a revelation last season and I don’t see any reason why they can’t go on with it again this season. The Dogs are brilliantly coached by Luke Beveridge because they play a game style that suits their personnel to a tee.
“The first seven games the Bulldogs play are at Etihad Stadium which gives them the perfect opportunity to get off to a great start.”
Rohan Connelly – Tenth
“A harsh call, but the boom side of 2015 might find things a lot tougher in 2016, opponents more thorough in their homework and a draw far harder than last year’s friendlier fixture.
“Tom Liberatore’s return is a plus, Matt Suckling helps defensive rebound, but you can expect the blowtorch to go up a few degrees on the Dogs this season.”
