With a spot in this year’s Grand Final up for grabs, Western Bulldogs forward Tom Boyd expects a fierce contest when his side takes on Greater Western Sydney at Spotless Stadium on Saturday night.
The Bulldogs come into the twilight clash full of momentum after dispatching the previous years’ grand finalists in successive weeks, while the Giants have had the week off to freshen up after a physical contest against crosstown rivals, Sydney, in the first week of the finals.
Boyd said he expects the Giants to again bring the heat.
“It will be fireworks, after what we saw with the Giants and the Sydney game last week,” he told the Herald Sun.
“That was a fierce contest and I expect the same thing this week.”
Boyd has imposed himself physically on both the Eagles and the Hawks this finals series, his name at the top of stats sheet in the areas that coaches love – contested possessions, tackles and one percenters.
The 21-year-old said his side is confident they can extend their giant-killing September spree to Spotless Stadium on the weekend.
“We have a super strong belief in our system,” Boyd said.
“Obviously we were missing quite a few guys for a period of time, but we sort of got them injected back in the team the last couple of weeks.
“That really gave us a spark and the energy and intensity that we have brought the last two weeks. You just can’t match that around the ball.”
