It’s been 15 years since a Romero donned the red, white and blue of the Western Bulldogs, but with the AFL granting Michael Romero, son of Jose, permission to train with the Club, there may be another in the not too distant future.
The 1996 Sutton Medallist, Jose played 122 games for the Bulldogs between 1995 and 2001 after being taken at pick #12 in the pre-season draft. The move to Footscray reinvigorated the 174cm Romero’s career, the former Kangaroo becoming a vital cog in the Bulldog sides of the late nineties and early 2000’s.
Michael is a small forward currently in Calder Cannons TAC Cup squad and will be eligible for the 2016 NAB AFL Draft.
The Bulldogs have been no stranger to father/son prospects in recent years with Tom Liberatore, Mitch Wallis, Lachie Hunter and Zaine Cordy all playing senior football last season.
