New club, new opportunity.
One month into his move to VU Whitten Oval, Hayden Crozier isn’t looking back.
The 23-year-old arrived at the Kennel in November as one of three trade period signings.
Recruited by the Dockers with pick No.20 in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft, Crozier played 69 games for Fremantle over six seasons before requesting a trade back to his native Melbourne at season’s end.
And the high-flying utility isn't taking his fresh start for granted.
“I know it’s going to sound cliché – but I’m just taking it one week at a time,” Crozier told westernbulldogs.com.au.
“I know I’ve got to train hard and put my best foot forward and see how I go.”
Crozier enjoyed his best season in 2016 as a running defender but his versatility led him to spend more time in Fremantle’s forward line this year, kicking 13 goals from 19 games.
Crozier has cited a return to the backline at his new club, an area where he feels he can play his best football.
“My strength is probably my versatility,” said Crozier.
“I’m looking to play majority half-back but being able to play wing and across half forward (helps) as well. I feel like I’m quite athletic so (I’m) able to help out in different aspects of the game.”
“I’ve been speaking to Bevo (Luke Beveridge) and Steven King as well – just getting familiar with their setups and different terminology of their setups.
“So far it’s been good, I’m just trying to train as hard as I can and implement all the new game plan and structures and see how I go.”
