The Footscray Bulldogs are back on the winners list, defeating Richmond by one-point on the back of a match-winning goal from Josh Schache on Saturday night.
In his first game back after an ankle injury, Josh Schache impressed in the forward line, booting three majors including an all-important goal in the dying seconds of the game which gave the ‘Scray the lead.
In a see-sawing contest, the Dogs got the jump on the Tigers with four first quarter goals from Tom Campbell, Josh Schache, Anthony Bruhn and Lauchlan Dalgleish.
But the 2017 grand finalists fought back and wrestled control in the second term, leading the home side by one goal at half time.
Lukas Webb looked dangerous around the ball, racking up 25 disposals and five marks, while Shane Biggs (14 disposals, 6 marks) and Fletcher Roberts (14 disposals) held strong in the backline, keeping Richmond to one-goal in the third term.
Jackson Trengove (25 disposals) and Tom Campbell (10 disposals) shared ruck duties, equalling 48 hit-outs between them. Campbell performed well in the forward line, including a goal from 55 metres out at the final seconds of the first quarter.
The Dogs take on Port Melbourne next Saturday at Fortburn Stadium, at 2pm.
