With the Bulldogs back six in a regular state of flux due to injury, the one constant in the second half of the year has been Shane Biggs who has quietly become a key cog after an indifferent start to his 2017 campaign.
The 26-year-old former Swan found himself in the VFL in the early part of the season but has missed just the one game since Round 10, picking up 20-plus disposals in his past six games including a career high 22 kick, 11 mark performance against the Bombers in Round 19.
His clean and efficient use of the football coming out of defence has not been missed by stats gurus Champion Data either, who rate Biggs elite for kick rating, and above average for disposals, kicks, marks.
And his 82% disposal efficiency is third at Bulldogs, an impressive stat considering that he rates equal first with Lachie Hunter for average kicks per game (14.1).
But it’s not just when he’s got that ball that Biggs ranks highly, he’s doing the grunt work too, rating above average for pressure and hard-ball-gets, and he’s third at the Club for intercept possessions per game among players that have played 10 or more games.
The Dogs travel to Ballarat this weekend to take on Port Adelaide in the first ever fixture at the newly named Mars Stadium, with the home side potentially welcoming back defenders Dale Morris and Jason Johannisen, for the must win clash.
