Earlier this week a group participants from the Club’s Daughters of the West program took part in a “Come and Try Sports Day” at VU Whitten Oval.
The session was due to the Club’s partnership with VicHealth and was designed to help promote the recently launched This Girl Can – Victoria campaign.
The campaign, which was launched in late-March, is a local version of the campaign by Sport England which inspired 3.9 million British women to get involved.
This Girl Can – Victoria aims to build upon this success and empower women across the state to get active and overcome feelings of judgment which new VicHealth research shows is stopping them from getting active.
VicHealth are a key partner of the Daughters of the West program which continues a long association with the Western Bulldogs Community programs.
The session was all about participants getting involved and trying a number of new sports in addition to Football. Fellow VicHealth partnered sports such as Bowls Victoria, Football Federation Victoria, Cricket Victoria, Surfing Victoria and the Melbourne Rebels also showcased their respective sports throughout the morning.
The Club was represented by AFL player Mitch Wallis and AFLW premiership defender Libby Birch who both ran the Football station teaching some key skills to the participants.
