The Western Bulldogs have secured their spot in the VFLW Preliminary Finals after defeating Port Melbourne at Mission Whitten Oval on Saturday afternoon.
The Dogs’ high intensity playing style proved too strong for the Borough as they came out triumphant in the 5.4 (34) to 3.4 (22) affair.
The opening quarter saw intense play around the ball as both teams struggled to capitalise on opportunities inside-50 with defensive pressure at a high.
Goals from Mia-Rae Clifford and Jaimi Tabb got the ball rolling in the first half, allowing the Dogs to establish a 13-point lead heading into the main change.
The dominance stuck with the Bulldogs after the break with majority of play spent inside their forward 50.
A late surge from Port Melbourne in the fourth term saw the visitors narrow the Dogs’ lead to 13, but the girls in the red, white and blue were able to wrestle back the momentum.
Clifford was a shining light up forward booting two goals, while Keeley Hardingham was the game’s highest ball winner, finishing with 23 disposals.
