After a nail-biting two-point win against Richmond last weekend, Footscray will be looking for a more complete performance when they take on Sandringham on Sunday afternoon.

Footscray coach Ashley Hansen admitted post-match that the win against the Tigers came from effort and spirit, rather than skill but says his side will be focused on creating a balance this weekend.

“We have had a balanced approach to our focus areas this week, in regards to all three phases of the game as continuity and routine is important for the group.

“We did highlight though the behaviours rather than the actions from the game against Richmond that we were really pleased with.”

The Bulldogs could jump to as high as second on the VFL ladder with a win against the Zebras, but Hansen said he would drive his players’ focus away from result.

“I don’t talk about the ladder… It’s all about the way we play week to week, not the result or outcome on the ladder.”

Shane Biggs has been a stand out for the Bulldogs in recent weeks, unlucky to miss out on a recall to the senior side after being named as emergency for the Bulldogs clash with St Kilda on Saturday night.

Biggs was dominant across half-back against the Tigers, collecting 31 disposals and impressing with his ball use out of defence.

Hansen indicated Biggs would continue to play both on the wing and across half-back on Sunday.

“His form last week was really encouraging in regards to his contest and offensive contribution.

“We are looking for him to continue this without doing anything above or beyond, consistency from all our young players is what they need to strive for so when opportunity presents at AFL level they are prepared for it.”
