Melbourne Vixens captain Bianca Chatfield was the star attraction during The Whitten Project’s recent session at Victoria University Whitten Oval on Saturday 17 May 2014.

Over 50 Young Leaders participated in the interactive session that focussed on the significance of support networks and personal branding.

With a career spanning 14 years at domestic and international level, Bianca was able to share her vast knowledge regarding effective leadership styles and overcoming adversity.

The current vice-captain of the Australian Diamonds has enjoyed a successful career, netting a World Championship Gold and a Commonwealth Games Silver medal.

Glenelg Shire Council Young Leader Brit Carter described the session as “thought provoking” and went home with the motivation to “try my best to be recognised as a person who is fair, determined and always does their best”.

Fellow young leader Olivia Cottier described the session as inspirational and said it was the highlight of The Whitten Project so far.

The group attended the Melbourne Vixens final home and away season match against the West Coast Fever at Hisense Arena on Sunday 18 May 2014 where the Vixens ran out comfortable victors.

Through a new and exciting partnership with Netball Victoria, The Whitten Project Young Leaders will participate in a variety of Netball specific initiatives throughout the course of the program.

This includes a number of Melbourne Vixens match day experiences, player appearances and coaching courses.

Now into its second year of delivery, The Whitten Project is a five month Leadership Program for males and females enrolled in years 9 and 10 at schools in Melbourne’s western region.

The Whitten Project is designed to inspire the next generation of leaders through high value experiential opportunities provided by the Western Bulldogs and partner agencies.

Young Leaders hail from all areas of the Bulldogs heartland including Brimbank, Glenelg, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton and Moonee Valley City Councils.
