It’s a massive weekend for the Club with 3 big Finals to be played on Saturday.  In the thick of the action will be the Williamstown Football Club with the Seniors lining up for a Preliminary Final and the Reserves playing off in a Grand Final.  Today we are joined Western Bulldogs Development Manager Chris Maple who is here to give us an insight into how the boys are feeling ahead of a ‘Super Saturday of Footy’.

Chris welcome back , how is everyone travelling at the moment?

Yeah I think the boys are really looking forward to the Finals experience.  From a development perspective it’s important for us to be able to have a look at our players in pressure situations and it is as important for them to be able to perform when the pressure is on.

There has obviously been a fair bit of talk about the Club’s unfortunate run with injuries of late, is it frustrating to have so many changes at VFL level?

Not at all, it is exciting to see these kids get their chance.  It is a great opportunity for the young players who get pushed up and there is a domino effect there. I don’t think there are any problems with it, one persons loss is another’s gain.

Who are you looking to stand up this weekend when the pressure is on?

Obviously the Williamstown contingent of Brett Johnson, Peter Faulks and Ben Jolley are all stalwarts of the Club and I am sure Peter German will be looking to them to stand up.

And we will also be expecting all of our Bulldogs listed players to pull their weight and to step up as they did in the first Final.

Now the Reserves are playing in the Grand Final, there would have to be some nerves.

They are really looking forward to it, the boys cannot wait until Saturday.

Do you subscribe to the theory that big Finals games make and break reputations?

It can definitely damage your brand I suppose.  Look yes, no, sometimes I am not quite sure.  Some guys are big game players and others are not.  It’s a great learning experience and from a development perspective it is just fantastic for these guys to play in a Finals atmosphere at VFL level.

Is there any extra incentive this week with the disappointment of last year?

I think the whole Williamstown Football Club is desperate for success.  Obviously the seconds are into the Grand Final and the Seniors are into a Preliminary Final so we have made some good steps.  The Bulldogs players are part of that which is great, we hope they do well from a development perspective but also for the Seagulls.

Now we have a fantastic triple header of football on Saturday and I am sure you guys are keen to get as many Doggies fans down to Box Hill City Oval as possible.

All I can say to the fans is come and see 12 quarters of great footy.  There will be 8 out at Box Hill City Oval during the day and then another 4 at the MCG on Saturday night.  Hopefully we can have 3 great wins.

Well Chris let’s hope all are fans can get behind the boys on the weekend and we have a successful weekend of Finals footy.  Thanks again for joining us and good luck
