LAST TIME THEY MET

Fremantle 10.9 (69) def. by Western Bulldogs 17.16 (118)

The Bulldogs were able to exact some elimination final revenge against the Dockers in round six earlier this season. Defeating the hosts by 49 points at Optus Stadium, the Dogs overcame an inaccurate 3.7 opening quarter to bring up the ton for the first time this season. Marcus Bontempelli led from the front with 31 disposals, 10 tackles, eight clearances and two goals, while Adam Treloar (35 disposals, four marks, two goals) and Tim English (20 disposals, 34 hit-outs, one goal) were important. Bailey Williams finished with a career-high three goals, as did West Aussie Aaron Naughton (11 disposals, three goals).

TALKING POINTS

1. Trio to celebrate milestones

Saturday’s match will see a trio of Bulldogs bring up some individual milestones – Tim English (100 games), Anthony Scott (50 games) and Adam Treloar (50 Club games).

Treloar’s milestone in particular will see him join an exclusive circle, becoming just the fourth player in V/AFL history to play at least 50 games for three different teams.

It’s been a quick – and unique – journey to 50 games for Scott, who arrived at the Kennel via the preseason supplementary period at the start of 2021.

English will become the second Bulldog to reach 100 games this season, drafted with Pick 19 in 2016.

2. All things Kidzmania

The Bulldogs will put their youngest fans in the spotlight this weekend – kids!

There’ll be plenty happening on game-day, including roaming entertainment, DJs and balloon artists, plus the chance to meet Club mascots Caesar and Sunny.

We’ll also be serving complimentary popcorn, fruit and smoothies around the ground, and hosting Macca’s Kick 2 Kick post-match, so don’t forget your footy!

3. Bucking the post-bye trend

Despite entering the clash as the higher-placed team and hosts, the Bulldogs will have quite an alarming stat against them come Saturday afternoon.

This season, only two teams have triumphed in their first games back after the bye – Collingwood and St Kilda.

The Dogs could become the fifth team to record a post-bye win (pending Richmond defeats Brisbane on Thursday night and North Melbourne defeats Adelaide), if they are successful against the Dockers.

Excluding the pre-finals bye, the Bulldogs’ current post-bye record in the modern 18-team era is six wins and five losses.
