Western Bulldogs midfielder Adam Treloar says it’s been pleasing for the team to produce a solid month of football.

The Bulldogs have won four of their past five matches – dropping Port Adelaide at home in Gather Round – with a trip to the nation’s capital against GWS scheduled this weekend.

“The last month has been very pleasing in regards to how we’ve played – I know we lost to Port Adelaide a few weeks ago, but we were right in that game until the very end,” Treloar told RSN on Thursday morning.

“The most pleasing thing is that we’re defending really well. Post-those first two games, I feel like the last couple of weeks we’ve been able to score a little better than what we have been.

“I feel like we’ve found our groove a little bit and are playing some good footy.

“I’m really looking forward to this week’s game now.”

Treloar said this point of the season is where the team can more accurately gauge oppositions, as well as themselves.

“It usually takes about 5-6 rounds to really see where you’re at, how you’re playing and how you stack up against teams,” he explained.

“Obviously those first couple of games weren’t ideal – we weren’t playing particularly well at all – but I feel like that Brisbane game in round three really set us up in how we wanted to play.

“Not worrying about the scoreboard itself, but more playing good footy and knowing that the scoreboard will then look after itself.”

Treloar has started the season in fine form, averaging 30 disposals, four tackles and seven clearances after seven games.

He put some of that output down to skipper Marcus Bontempelli, who motivates the entire team through leading by example.

“I think that’s probably the number one thing that stands out to me – (Bont’s) humility,” Treloar said.

“You wouldn’t think that he’s a multiple All-Australian, multiple Best and Fairest winner, one of the great modern-day players and one of the greatest Western Bulldogs players if you were to talk to him.

“That’s just the kind of person he is – he’s so humble and wants what’s absolute best for the footy club.

“Being able to see that up close and the work he puts in – it’s a joy to watch and a joy to be around.

“It motivates you as an athlete and teammate yourself, to want to be like Bont.”

The Bulldogs will meet the Giants at Manuka Oval on Saturday 6 April at 7.30pm.
