The Footscray Bulldogs recorded their first victory of the 2023 VFL season, overcoming Richmond at the Swinburne Centre by 23-points on Saturday.

Led by a rampant Toby McLean, the red, white and blue pushed ahead at every change to run out convincing winners and get their season back on track.

McLean gathered a career-high 47 touches during the contest, amassing 17 clearances and nine tackles to be the clear influential player on the ground.

Lachie Sullivan continued his fantastic form with 31 touches and two goals, while Sam Darcy also kicked multiple goals in the victory.

The Scray’ burst out of the blocks to kick six of the first seven goals of the match, taking a commanding 33-point lead into the first break.

The lead would be extended to 40-points at the main break, before a late resurgence from the home side in the final term.

Jordon Sweet remained physical throughout with 55 hit-outs for the side, with Cody Raak having 20 touches.

Footscray will now have a bye, before playing Southport in Round 5
