The Western Bulldogs will meet Melbourne in Casey on Sunday afternoon in the 13th instalment of the Hampson-Hardeman Cup.
The Cup was named in honour of women’s footy pioneers Barb Hampson and Lisa Hardeman, who developed the first women’s national championships in 1998, and was established by the two clubs for the inaugural exhibition match held at the MCG in 2013.
The exhibition games were played annually over four years, before the introduction of the official AFLW competition in 2017.
Ellie Blackburn, Kirsty Lamb, Bailey Hunt and Kirsten McLeod remain from the team that played for the Bulldogs in the inaugural AFLW meeting in 2017, while Dees-turned-Dogs Deanna Berry and Rocky Cranston represented Melbourne in that same game.
Assistant coach Mel Hickey also featured as an opposition player.
Since the exhibition matches beginning in 2013, the Dogs trail four wins to the Dees’ eight – with the Dees currently in possession of the Cup following a 24-point win in season six.
