Western Bulldogs young gun Rylie Wilcox has earned a NAB AFLW Rising Star nomination for round three.
In just her third game at senior level, Wilcox was electric in the three-point win over Fremantle, registering 11 disposals and 252 metres gained to be named the Bulldogs’ best on ground.
The 17-year-old Year 12 student also slotted her first career goal midway through the second quarter, showing great composure, elite running and a classy finish.
“She’s amazing – we brought her in because she filled a need. We needed a smart winger who could play that position really well,” coach Nathan Burke said.
“By her preseason - she’s only training once, sometimes twice a week at times - but she just forced her way into the team.”
Wilcox, a former Northern Knight, was drafted to the Kennel with the Bulldogs’ first selection (pick 21) in the 2022 National Draft.
She made her AFLW debut in the opening round against GWS, and is the Bulldogs’ first Rising Star nominee of season seven.
Wilcox played junior football for Parkside and Fitzroy.
All AFLW players under the age of 21 on 31 December 2022 and who have not previously been nominated as a Rising Star qualify for consideration for the award.
Two players will be nominated each week of the NAB AFLW Competition, with an overall winner to be crowned at the 2022 W Awards.
