THE WESTERN Bulldogs and the Sydney Swans appear to have struck the first deal of trade week, with Andrejs Everitt and Patrick Veszpremi to swap clubs.

The Bulldogs will also receive the Swans' fourth-round selection in next month's NAB AFL Draft (No.73 overall).

The deal was all but sealed when Everitt's manager Ricky Nixon and Bulldogs general manager of football operations James Fantasia went over the finer details on afl.com.au's Trade Week Radio.

"I've spoken to Sydney and we've agreed on a contract for Andrejs Everitt," Nixon said.

"I understand what the deal might be and I've spoken to Andrejs, who is on a yacht in the middle of Hong Kong somewhere, to get the deal done.

"It just comes down to one bloke agreeing now so this could be the first live trade in the history of the AFL if you're prepared to agree to the deal."

Fantasia then replied that the Bulldogs were happy to oblige.

"There's one little rider with it and that's obviously that it's Veszpremi plus a late draft pick as well," Fantasia said.

"At this stage it's a round four pick."

Fantasia added that he was preparing to contact the Swans to make sure the draft selection would be agreed to.

Nevertheless, Everitt appears to have been offered a multi-year contract to join the Swans.

"I won't go into it but let's just say it's a longer term deal. It's not a one-year deal, that's for sure," Nixon said.

"I think it's important in a trade that you give someone like Andrejs a real opportunity to settle in and get some games into him and really see if he can do what they expect him to do.

"They've been pretty good about that and I think they see him playing at centre half-back, off the half-back line.

"[Craig] Bolton is 30 years old, they've got a couple of other defenders who are in that age bracket as well so it's probably a good pick."

Veszpremi, originally from Melbourne, will return to his home state after three years at the Swans.

Drafted with pick 11 in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft, the 21-year-old struggled with injuries and fluctuating form during his time in Sydney.

But he is renowned for having great pace and goal sense, and once kicked eight goals in a TAC Cup final.

"Having Pat come into the group, plus the opportunity of still selecting another young player, is very exciting for us as well," Fantasia said.

Everitt, a utility, was selected by the Dogs at No.11 in the 2006 national draft and played 36 games for the club.

His older brother, Peter, played 39 games for the Swans in 2007 and 2008.
