The improved efficiency when moving the ball forward on Sunday was a big part of the Bulldogs 22-point win, Mitch Wallis says.
The young brigade are becoming more confident with their delivery forward of the centre and are enjoying the constant movement from the forwards.
“We were sharing the ball really well and the forwards were isolating, so once we found the open runner we were able to hit our forwards,” Wallis said.
“They got first use and kicked a few good goals.
“There was some really good chemistry between the mids and the forwards today.”
A strong start was a focus as the Bulldogs tried to avoid playing “catch up footy” and Wallis said the results were evident.
The Eagles were unable to shake the Dogs defence to extend the lead by more than two goals in the first term, as the home side continued to keep them in check.
A three goal buffer early in the second stanza was the furthest the Eagles could get in front, as the Bulldogs swung the momentum their way and held on to the lead throughout the second half.
“[We were] trying to turn the game around, not just leaking goals, we turned it around and got a couple goals ourselves,” he said.
“We got in front and sort of held that.
“It was a sign of maturity from the group, we are still working on it but it was a big step forward today.”
