“No longer ‘tired, struggling and battling’ - there is something powerful brewing west of the city,” Western Bulldogs CEO Simon Garlick announced at the launch of the Western Front campaign.
Melbourne’s West is expanding at a rapid rate and the Western Bulldogs don’t just want to ride the wave, they want to pioneer it according to Garlick.
Western Melbourne is forecast to grow by 20,000 residents each year for the next two decades and the Bulldogs are stepping up to the challenge of winning the west.
“Just over 20,000 new residents are forecasted to move into Melbourne’s West every year for the next two decades bringing with them opportunity the likes of which our State, our Club and critically our game have never seen before - and are unlikely to see again,” Garlick Said.
“As a wave of growth rolls across Melbourne’s West, our ambition is not just to ride it, but to pioneer it.”
Garlick highlighted the support from Bulldogs sponsors and community groups as they continue to increase their community focus.
“Without your support, our work beyond the boundary line; in our schools, with newly arrived Australians and our engagement with our wonderfully multicultural surrounds - would not be possible,” he said.
“Along with key partners including the Maribyrnong City Council and Victoria University, we have built some of the best elite sporting, commercial and community facilities in the country - and in the process taught others a lesson in community relevance - child care, community sports hall, conference facilities all forming part of a home shared effectively with others.”
The Bulldogs have implemented a five year plan that is “unashamedly aimed at Winning the West” and in today’s launch have sent a clear warning to competing AFL clubs that the west is Bulldog territory.
“This is a story that not only captures the essence of our football club, but also celebrates the changing face of the West and the people who live in it and love it,” he said.
“And a story that unapologetically marks our territory and sends a message to the pretenders that the West is our home, our heartland and where our story of ultimate success will have its genesis.”
