The Western Bulldogs have fallen short in their round 12 VFLW clash against Collingwood on Saturday morning.
Despite taking a narrow five-point lead into the final change, the Bulldogs couldn’t withstand the Pies’ late attack, going down by 10 points in slippery conditions.
It was a much improved performance from the Dogs, who showed some promising signs and patches of play in the 5.6 (36) to 4.2 (26) result.
A two-goal to one-behind second term helped the Bulldogs establish a small advantage at the main break, before holding onto their lead at three-quarter time.
But the Pies finished strongly on their home deck, keeping the visitors scoreless while adding 2.3 to secure the win.
Senior-listed Bulldog Brit Gutknecht continued her run of form, collecting 22 touches while laying eight tackles.
Lucy Schneider impressed again with 26 disposals, while Eliza Vale (20 disposals, seven marks) and Maddie Marks (18 disposals, six tackles, one goal) fought hard.
Megan Chadwick, Tahlia Meier and Jemma Webster were the Dogs’ other contributors.
The Dogs will next face North Melbourne at Arden Street Oval and Carlton at IKON Park in their final two matches of the 2022 VFLW season.
