Western Bulldogs senior coach Luke Beveridge says despite enjoying wins in their last four outings at second home Mars Stadium, his group will be expecting a fierce challenge against Adelaide.
Round 19 in 2018 was the last time the Bulldogs suffered defeat in Ballarat, but Beveridge was cautious of his side not relying too heavily on past form.
“We’re winning in Ballarat more often than not over the last couple of years – I think it’s probably a challenge for any team coming from interstate because they have two travels; one on the plane and then one on the bus,” Beveridge told media on Wednesday morning.
“I think Port Adelaide was the last team to beat us there, but history doesn’t account for a lot, especially the way Adelaide are playing. They’ll manage the ground pretty well I’d say.”
Beveridge singled out Crows forward Taylor Walker as someone they’ll need to nullify, with a direct match-up for the veteran yet to be decided.
“Taylor is a player that doesn’t need many opportunities – he’s got such an amazing field kick and finish, so we’ve got to make sure that we starve him of supply,” he said.
“He’s been kicking really opportunistic goals as well – not necessarily just a mark and set shot. We’ll put some time into him.
“I think Gardy has been going really well against opposition key forwards, and Tim O’Brien is also fresh on the scene now.
“We played Zaine Cordy as a forward-ruck last week, but whether Buku Khamis or Josh Schache get a look in - we’ll work our way through that at match committee level.”
