After a major set-back in 2018 with a syndesmosis injury sustained during pre-season training, Ellyse Gamble is ready to kick off the 2019 season, with the hopes to defend the premiership she witnessed her teammates win earlier this year.
Re-committing to the Dogs for the 2019 season earlier this week, Gamble told SEN’s Peter Jackson VFL show that she is looking forward to wearing the red, white and blue for a third consecutive year.
“I’m stoked to be locked in with the Doggies for another season,” said Gamble.
“It was really important for (the Club) going into next season, to keep the majority of our group together and to continue growing on the culture that we’ve already built, because we’ve already built something so special.”
Missing the entire 2018 AFLW season, Gamble shared the bittersweet nature of witnessing her teammates win the premiership.
“It wasn’t the year I wanted for myself individually,” she said.
“It was disappointing going into the season and getting that injury a couple of weeks out from Round One, but to finish off with a premiership at the end of the season, although I wasn’t on the field, I still felt very much a part of it.”
“We couldn’t have asked for a better ending.”
The Western Bulldogs AFLW side finalised their 2019 re-signings earlier this week, with 22 Dogs set to wear the red, white and blue next season.
