How did the media see the Bulldogs’ 73-point win over Carlton on Friday night?
AFL Media (Dinny Navaratnam)
A massive leap in percentage for the Bulldogs (up to 200, 64 points ahead of second-placed Brisbane) should see them hold on to top spot at the end of this round. With a 3-1 record and with the club hopeful Brennan could return this year, the Dogs are in good shape heading into the second half of the season.
The Age (Peter Ryan)
Emma Kearney and Ellie Blackburn were outstanding for the Bulldogs, winning the ball well and using their leg speed to create space out of congestion.
Kearney had 25 disposals, with 24 kicks and one handball, pumping the ball forward at every opportunity while Blackburn finished with 19 touches.
Former basketballer Monique Conti was explosive, showing poise and pace while Bonnie Toogood chipped in with three goals.
Fox Sports (Ben Waterworth)
When skipper Katie Brennan went down with an ankle injury during the closing stages of the Western Bulldogs’ loss to Adelaide last weekend, the outlook seemed grim for Paul Groves’ side.
In fact with Brennan and No. 1 pick Izzy Huntington (knee) out for the rest of the AFLW season due to injury, St Kilda great Leigh Montagna declared the Bulldogs couldn’t win the 2018 flag.
Herald Sun (Sam Landsberger)
This is what the AFL asked for… This was a Western Bulldog bonanza as they booted the highest AFLW score so far in a 73-point demolition ignited by Brooke Lochland.
The signs of an open contest were evident in the first term.
As Lochland gathered the ball on the 50m and sprinted towards an open goal, the only congestion was in the club’s cheersquad.
