His AFL career is only four games old, but Bulldogs top draft pick Jake Stringer is making a habit of hitting the scoreboard with regularity.

Kicking seven goals in his first four games, Stringer has scored majors in all but his debut against the Crows – a game that he entered late as the substitute.

A second thee-goal haul against the Gold Coast Suns on Saturday highlighted the bullocking 19 year-old from Bendigo can get it done both as a lead-up option but also at ground level.

“I suppose it’s not necessarily about individual efforts, it’s about the team, but it was good to get on the scoreboard and do my part for the team,” Stringer told BulldogsTV in the rooms at Metricon Stadium.

“You do everything for the team, I was lucky enough to get in the right spots a few times.”

Stringer kicked the Dogs’ second goal of the game, nailing the set shot after taking a sliding mark on the end of a dropping long-range punt from Koby Stevens.

The 191-centimetre forward also showed skill at ground level, kicking two crumbing goals after making good position at the drop of the ball.

Against an emerging side like the Suns, Stringer said the game was a good yardstick for the young Dogs to benchmark their progress against.

“It’s good to see where we’re at with our development with our young kids, but we still need to harden up a little bit around the ball,” said Stringer who collected ten disposals, three marks and three inside 50m for the game.

“A few times I got out marked, I’ve still got a lot to learn.”
