Australian Football Hall of Fame inductee Nathan Burke says his current role as head coach of the AFLW Bulldogs is the most enjoyable role he’s had.

Having been in the AFL industry since 1987, Burke said now being involved in the AFLW is a rewarding experience.

“It’s about as far away from a job it could get – I enjoy it too much,” Burke told RSN 927 on Thursday morning.

“I can’t think of a time in my 20-odd year football journey that I’ve enjoyed as much as I do now.

“Working with the women – they’re just so keen to improve, and they soak up anything that you give them. They’re a wonderful bunch – it’s a privilege to be their coach.

“Don’t tell the Bulldogs, but I’d probably (coach) for nothing. I just love it.”

Burke was one of four recognised in the Hall of Fame on Tuesday night, with Bulldogs’ General Manager of Women’s Footy, Debbie Lee, making history as the first woman to be inducted.

It is yet another accolade for the women’s footy pioneer, whose on-field achievements include 302 VWFL games, three premierships, seven club best-and-fairests, five league best-and-fairests, and six All Australian selections.

“As we know, Nathan’s a wonderful human being so to share it with him is also really great,” Lee told RSN 927 on Wednesday morning.

“There’s a sense of achievement. People have been wonderful in terms of congratulating me and reaching out and sharing their stories…(especially) older women.

“You don’t look for these things - the game is where it is now and a lot of people have contributed to that, but it’s a great acknowledgement.”

Season six of the NAB AFLW competition will now begin the weekend of January 6-9, as announced on Thursday morning.
