AFL TEAM | Round 9
Western Bulldogs name their side to face Collingwood on Friday night.
Bulldogs’ skipper Marcus Bontempelli and key defender Alex Keath headline five inclusions ahead of Friday night’s clash against Collingwood at Marvel Stadium.
The important duo will be joined by youngsters Rhylee West and Jordon Sweet, with Luke Cleary making his debut in the red, white and blue.
After a night of carnage in Adelaide, Tim O’Brien (calf), Laith Vandermeer (hamstring) and Cody Weightman (collarbone) will all exit the side due to injury.
Ruckman Sweet comes into the side at the expense of Stefan Martin, who will miss after being managed for the fixture against the Pies, while Roarke Smith has been omitted.
West returns to the line-up after being named medi-sub in his only appearance this year against the Crows in Ballarat.
Sweet played five games across the 2021 season and has been given the opportunity off the back of strong form in the VFL side.
Cleary will play his first game in Bulldogs colours after being drafted at pick 61 in the 2021 National Draft.
Hayden Crozier, Arthur Jones, Roarke Smith and Josh Schache are the emergencies for tomorrow’s clash.
A player will be confirmed as the medical sub an hour before the first bounce.
Channel 7 and Fox Footy will broadcast the game live.
Friday night will mark the 24th instalment of the Robert Rose Cup, named after former Pie and Bulldog Robert Rose who was paralysed in a car accident in 1974. He passed away in 1999, with the Cup established in 2000 to honour his contribution to the sport and raise awareness for people living with disability

AFL Report | Dogs hold steady over persistent Pies
The Western Bulldogs have secured their fourth win of the 2022 season, holding steady over Collingwood on Friday night at Marvel Stadium.
The Western Bulldogs have secured their fourth win of the 2022 season, holding steady over Collingwood on Friday night at Marvel Stadium.
Despite the Bulldogs taking a 46-point buffer into the final change, the persistent Pies wouldn’t go away, closing the gap to as little as 27 points midway through the last.
But the Dogs held firm, closing out the match with the final three goals to record a 7.9 (51) to 14.15 (99) triumph and retain the Robert Rose Cup.
The visitors – albeit at their home ground – were strong from the get-go, booting six goals to one in the opening term to set the tone early.
Buku Khamis presented well up forward, slotting two first-quarter goals to finish with three overall, while Josh Dunkley (24 disposals, nine marks, three goals) was strong.
00:46
Those shared contributions on the scoreboard helped set the Dogs up with the buffer that would ultimately see out the game, along with some midfield dominance which saw them win the clearance count 27-43.
The Pies continued to push late, but the Dogs remained composed.
Bailey Smith found plenty of the footy, registering 41 disposals and six clearances, while a three-goal, 35-disposal and eight-clearance effort saw Adam Treloar claim the Bob Rose-Charlie Sutton Medal.
00:33
Debutant Luke Cleary was solid in his first outing, picking up 13 touches to go with seven marks.
The returns of Marcus Bontempelli (26 disposals, eight marks, five tackles, one goal) and Alex Keath (12 disposals, seven marks) were also important.
The Bulldogs will next host Gold Coast at Mars Stadium in Sir Doug Nicholls Round next Saturday afternoon.
