After a fantastic weekend for the Western Bulldogs I am sure that there are plenty of fans eagerly anticipating the inside word on our boys in the VFL from Development Coach Chris Maple.  First of all Chris, were you happy with the performance on the weekend?

It certainly was a good weekend for the Club David and it was a great result for Williamstown leading into a finals campaign.

The Reserves game was played in wet conditions, however it did clear up later in the day. After a slow start where Port Melbourne kicked the first three goals of the game, Williamstown started to play a better brand of football and managed to run over the top of Port Melbourne.

Which Western Bulldogs listed players lined up for the Williamstown Seniors and Reserves this weekend?

In the Seniors Dylan Addison, Tim Callan, Wayde Skipper, Guy O’Keefe, Jarrad Boumann, Jordan Roughead, Brennan Stack, Malcolm Lynch, Easton Wood and Stephen Tiller all played.

While lining up for the Reserves were Jarrad Grant, James Mulligan, John Shaw, Ayce Cordy, Cameron Wight, Paul O’Shea, Liam Jones, Chris Ogle, Henry White and Jamason Daniels.

Who were the standout players on the weekend?

In the Seniors Guy O’Keefe  had another very good  game, Jordan Roughead showed some real class, while Easton Wood and Jarrad Boumann were very good in defence.

And in the Reserves Henry White was outstanding racking up 36 possesions, Ayce Cordy was very good up forward kicking three goals in a half, while Cam Wight and Jamason Daniels all played well.

Which players are pushing for Senior selection at the Western Bulldogs for this week’s Qualifying Final?

The consistency of the Western Bulldogs means spots continue to be hard to find. In saying that, Tim Callan, Brennan Stack, Stephen Tiller, Wayde Sipper, Easton Wood and Guy O’Keefe will all be pressing for selection.

Were there any injury concerns to come out of the weekend?

Yes but fortunately nothing that will be a major concern, Ayce Cordy has some general soreness while Stephen Tiller had to be treated for a nasty cut to his head.

How would you rate the performance of the Western Bulldogs listed players?

All of our players had good games and really got Williamstown back in the game. A highlight of the day was Jordan Roughead’s screamer in the goal square, which he followed up with a goal, while Malcolm Lynch and Brennan Stack’s speed and forward pressure changed the game in the third quarter. Easton Wood showed courage and run in defence and Jarrad Boumann continually outplayed his bigger bodied opponents.

Looking ahead Chris, who should we keep our eye on?

Liam Jones is tall forward who has great speed and agility for a tall player. His body is still developing but he is a talent who will improve quickly once he becomes a full time footballer (he is currently completing Year 12 at Scotch College).  His marking is very good and with another pre-season under his belt he is sure to be an exciting prospect for the future.

Well that certainly is encouraging Chris, let’s hope that both the Western Bulldogs and Williamstown can take this momentum into the Finals.  See you next week mate, Go Dogs!
