The Western Bulldogs will us one of their third round selections in the 2012 AFL National Draft to secure forward / midfielder Lachie Hunter in today’s Father - Son bidding process at Etihad Stadium.

Hunter, who was widely regarded as a top 30 pick, was nominated by North Melbourne with pick 35 which resulted in the Bulldogs using their next available selection to draft the young talent.

Lachie Hunter, son of former 130-gamer Mark, will join the Bulldogs at Whitten Oval after representing Vic Metro in the 2012 AFL Under-18 national championships, as well as earning a place in the 2012 TAC Cup Team of the Year for his recent season with the Western Jets.

The forward / midfielder is accomplished in both his inside and outside game and will look to build on both during his first full pre-season.

After being given the final nod Hunter said he was honoured to join for the Club his father played with from 1988 to 1996.

"It's a huge honour to play at the club where Dad played. I really can't wait to get started," 17 year-old Hunter said.

"I pretty much started playing footy with Dad as my coach since under-nines and ever since then I've dreamed of [playing for the Bulldogs]."

Bulldogs Recruiting Manager Simon Dalrymple said the Club was pleased with the result.

"Obviously his father was a very good player for the Bulldogs and we think that Lachie with his season that he'd had to date has been really impressive," Dalrymple said.

"We think that as a forward and a midfielder he can add something to our group."
