Williamstown is looking to secure its first Grand Final berth since 2003 when it faces local rival Werribee in their VFL Preliminary Final clash on Sunday.

The Seagulls made known their premiership aspirations in the first week of the finals, handing reigning premiers North Ballarat a 61-point thrashing in their Qualifying Final encounter.

Werribee kept their premiership hopes alive last week, proving too good for the Casey in their Semi-Final match-up.

Williamstown holds a slight psychological advantage over their western suburbs rivals after securing a 13-point victory earlier in the VFL home and away season. The midfield battle will be crucial to Williamstown’s hopes of victory, with Brett Johnson, Ben Jolley, Sam Reid, Nathan Djerrkura and Ben Davies set to go head-to-head with a potent Tigers midfield that includes Travis Tuck, Dom Gleeson, Ben Ross, Ben Sharp and Majak Daw.

Williamstown will be hoping a forward line of Mitch Hahn, Matthew Panos, Patrick Veszpremi and Andrew Hooper will deliver the goods, while Werribee will be relying on forwards Ben McKinley, Ben Warren and Robbie Castello to kick a winning score.

With local pride and a spot in the VFL Grand Final on the line a big crowd is expected at TEAC Oval, Port Melbourne on Sunday.

The game starts at 2:10pm and all Western Bulldogs supporters are encouraged to flock in numbers to support the Seagulls.
