Positive: Improved ball movement and fluency

Improved on the spread, and finding greater rhythm with their ball movements through the corridor, the Bulldogs found plenty of space early in the contest which was reflected in leading the uncontested possession count at the half time break.

"Our ability to the move the ball was more fluent, and a little less labour intensive than it has been in the weeks gone by," reflected Montgomery. A greater number of contributors through the middle was also a pleasing sign for the coaching staff.

Room for Improvement: Contests in crunch time

When the game was there to be won early in the final term, the Bulldogs couldn't lay first hands on the football.

"In that last quarter where it was vital to get our hands on the footy, we juts came up short," said Montgomery.

Carlton's weight of numbers in the possession count - uncontested and contested - was reflected on the scoreboard with a six goals to two final term.

Stat That Mattered: Clearances

Will Minson continued his strong 2012 season, amassing a mammoth 54 hit outs for the match, dominating Carlton first gamer Levi Casboult (9 hit outs). Despite scoring a season high nine goals from stoppages for the match, Montgomery believed the Dogs midfielders still didn't capitalise sufficiently on the advantage that Minson created for his side.

"We dominated the hit outs, but really didn't get maximum damage away even though we did score nine goals from stoppages."

Player of the Week

With a career and game high four goals, Luke Dahlhaus was at his damaging best in the forward half. The 19-year-old's work off the ball also earned praise from the coaches, who were pleased with the dynamic and lively option he provided in the forward half.

"His ability to lay pressure - not a huge possession game - but one that had quality attached, and really lethal around goal," said Montgomery.
