The Western Bulldogs are seeing results from their newer playing style, assisted by a number of individuals hitting their stride.

Assistant Coach Paul Williams believes both a healthier list as well as tweaking the game plan have positively influenced the team in the past month.

“Having our quality players back, healthy, training fully and playing significant roles in areas where they play their best footy has helped,” Williams said.

“The way that we have tweaked our style a little bit, the way our kicking patterns have changed a little bit, we have definitely improved that side of our game as well.”

The football statistic the Bulldogs football department are keeping a keen eye on are pressure acts.

Veering from the days where players were judged largely on the number of tackles laid, pressure acts also take into account implied pressure which is now regarded highly within football circles.

“Implied pressure is almost getting there, almost a finger on the jumper, making them rush their disposal,” he said.

“[Luke] Dahlhaus has had 27 pressure acts for the game [Andrew] Hooper has had 17 and 13 or 14 of them were in the second half.

“The beauty of having both of those guys in our forward line currently, is that we are getting a lot of that implied pressure making it more difficult for the opposition to get the ball out of there.”

Although signs have been positive over the past four weeks, Williams wants more from the team.

“We are definitely improving… we’ve got the right people going through the right areas, we are going in the right direction, however we still have room for improvement, Williams said.”
