It didn’t take long for defender Hannah Scott to impose herself on the contest during Sunday’s 13-point upset win over Melbourne.

In her first game of the 2021 NAB AFLW season, Scott had almost an immediate impact for the Western Bulldogs, recording 12 disposals and four marks to go with some big bumps and passages of play.

“I think I’m known for that sort of pressure and physicality – it’s something I’ve always sort of looked to bring,” Scott told westernbulldogs.com.au post-match.

“I’m a bit of a bigger body, so any way that I can sort of impose myself (I will) – if I do have any nerves it does settle me in.

“It was just nice to be back. I was like a caged animal, I had a bit of pent-up stuff inside of me, so that definitely came out.”

Despite being under siege for majority of the match, the Bulldogs’ back-line stood tall, as the Dees recorded double the hosts’ inside-50s (38 to 19) but were unable to capitalise.

Scott sung high praise for her fellow defenders.

“The amount of times that ball came in – they really looked to hit up leads (with) repeat efforts, so we were really clear about what we wanted to do,” she said.

“To be able to see us gel like that and really do everything that we wanted to do as a backline, I couldn’t be prouder.

“It was a really awesome job by the girls, and just seeing (Ellyse) Gamble and ‘Elsa’ (Brown) really grow each week and get more confidence – I’ve played with those girls for a few years now so it’s been really awesome.

“It’s really exciting times for us, and now we’ve just got to recover well and reset for what’s to come next week.”

The AFLW Bulldogs will look to continue their three-game winning streak when they host GWS in the AFLW’s inaugural Indigenous Round on Saturday afternoon at VU Whitten Oval.
