Get to know our second signing of the 2020 AFL Trade Period, former Lion ruckman Stefan Martin.
- Martin has played 190 AFL games since his debut in Round 14, 2008.
- He was taken with Melbourne’s pick No. 3 in the 2008 Pre-season Draft.
- He spent the 2007 VFL season playing for Sandringham, which at the time was affiliated with Melbourne.
- The Western Bulldogs will be his third AFL club, following five years as a Dee, and eight years as a Lion.
- The 33-year-old represented Victoria alongside Marcus Bontempelli and Jack Macrae in the State of Origin Bushfire Relief match earlier this year.
- He grew up playing junior basketball at an elite level, starting with the Dandenong Rangers before joining the Nunawading Spectres.
- Martin made the Australian under-20s representative side for basketball, and played a test series for Australia in New Zealand at 17 years old.
- He received a VCE entrance score of 99.75, going on to study a double degree in law/science at Melbourne University.
- He played his first football game for Old Haileybury at 19 years old, and went on to win the best and fairest in his first season after polling 23 of a possible 24 votes.
- After spending 12 years in the AFL system, Martin finally played his first final in 2019.
