Get to know the Bulldogs’ newest recruit, Mitch Hannan, following his return to the Club during the 2020 AFL Trade Period.
- Hannan grew up in Gisborne, Victoria and played junior footy with Woodend.
- Despite missing out on TAC Cup selection, he found premiership success twice in as many years – the first with St Bernard’s in the VAFA in 2015, and then in 2016 with Footscray VFL.
- He was even awarded the Jock Nelson Medal for best afield in the 2015 VAFA Grand Final.
- During the 2016 VFL season, Hannan wowed Footscray fans with his aerial ability, taking high-flying screamers on multiple occasions.
- He was drafted to Melbourne as a mature-age recruit with pick No. 46 in the 2016 National Draft, and kicked two goals on debut.
- He was nominated as one of the AFLPA’s Best First Year Players in 2017.
- Hannan played both his first AFL game and milestone 50th AFL game against St Kilda.
- He sealed Melbourne’s first finals win in 12 years with a running, three-bounce goal on the wing in the 2018 Elimination Final against Geelong.
- Hannan created apparel brand Mendl, with the intention of starting more conversations around men’s mental health. The name itself comes from an acronym explaining the brand’s key message - Mending Men’s Mental Health.
- If he had to choose, his favourite superhero would be The Incredible Hulk.
