In his first game and with his first touch, Cody Weightman’s banana from the boundary in Round 7 has been voted the Bulldogs’ 2020 Goal of the Year, as voted by the fans.
Late in the first quarter with scores level against Essendon, Weightman had the chance to put his side up after taking a strong contested mark deep in the pocket.
Brushing off the pressure and all aspects of difficulty that would usually come with a kick like that, the debutant made it look easy as he went back and snapped it through from long range.
The entire playing group got around him, as expected, with commentator Bruce McAvaney describing the moment as “one of the best first touches in footy history”.
