Western Bulldogs leader Mitch Wallis says it will take a full four-quarter effort for his team to overcome the in-form Geelong Cats.

The Bulldogs have a point to prove entering Friday night’s blockbuster against the third-placed Cats, with an 0-5 record against top eight sides this year.

But back-to-back wins against Melbourne and Adelaide will mean the Bulldogs go in with confidence.

“We haven’t beaten too many sides up the ladder this year, so it was really important we matched it with a team that was going quite well over the last couple of weeks,” Wallis told media at training today.

“To put in the performance we did and win quite convincingly is a really good confidence boost.

“The ball’s in our court now and we’re in charge of our destiny to see what happens over the next month or so and to see if we can be there at the end of the year.”

Inconsistent patches of football have hurt the Bulldogs in 2020, particularly in a string of games against Richmond, Port Adelaide and the Brisbane Lions.

But Wallis is confident learnings from those games can be implemented quickly and has no doubt the Bulldogs’ best is good enough to claim the four points this week.

“In the Richmond game there was a bad patch there and I think we won the second half, and with Port Adelaide I thought we controlled most of the game but couldn’t convert that on the scoreboard,” he said.

“We’ve been there or thereabouts.

“But as I keep saying, the consistency thing across the four quarters is a big challenge.

“Geelong, I think, are one of the two or three teams that are the hot favourites to take it out this year so we’ll definitely find out where we’re at.

“I think if we apply ourselves for the four quarters and have a really consistent effort across our 22 players, we’re every chance to get a good result.”
