The Western Bulldogs will look to move on quickly from their disappointing outing against Richmond on Wednesday night, according to coach Luke Beveridge.
The Bulldogs were outplayed by the reigning premier at Metricon Stadium, particularly in the first half, eventually going down by 41 points.
With only five days between that loss and their next assignment – a trip to South Australia to play Port Adelaide – there won’t be too long to dwell on the result.
“We’ve just got to move on. It’s a sub-par performance from us,” Beveridge said after the match.
“In this new series of games, we’ve got to make sure we move on pretty quickly.
“There were certain parts of our game that were reasonably dysfunctional.
“We can’t go to school on it too much. We haven’t got a lot of time. We can’t use up a whole lot of energy in physical training because we’ve got to recover.
“We’ve just got to do things differently and present with a fresh approach against Port Adelaide.”
Against Richmond, the damage was done early in the game.
“Our first half was obviously a bit of a disaster, unfortunately,” Beveridge said.
“To Richmond’s credit, their intensity and their willingness to cover the ground and put us under pressure, which we invited…at the start of the game we overused the ball by hand and allowed them to get some momentum.
“I was pleased that the boys were able to almost halve that second half, when the game had really gone south.”
The Bulldogs expect to lose Matt Suckling for a period of time after he suffered a hamstring injury in the first quarter, but hope to regain influential midfielder Josh Dunkley and key forward Aaron Naughton over the next few weeks.
