They were joined by some special guests from the Macquarie Group as well as Bulldogs players Brennan Stack and Wayde Skipper.
Nine CGEA (Certificates in General Education for Adults), or Year 10 equivalent students, played with and against staff members from the Macquarie Group in a game designed to increase awareness and maintain their relationship.
The Macquarie Group is a corporate sponsor of the FRESH Program, contributing to the Western Bulldogs community initiative that assists at risk youth who are experiencing difficulties with mainstream education.
The game was conducted through the Freshen Up Sports Program, sponsored by the Macquarie Sports Foundation, and aimed at providing students with access to physical activity that would not otherwise be possible.
Western Bulldogs Education Services Manager, Chris Christoforou, said the sports program was critical in breaking down the barriers that affect the opportunities of FRESH students.
“Our intergroup sports days are a way for students of FRESH to meet and acknowledge their supporters at the Macquarie Group in a relaxed, informal setting. Today has helped create a better awareness between both groups of what each is about,” Christoforou said.
“To have Brennan and Wayde come down to participate and act as role models has added to the positive relationship between the Western Bulldogs and the Macquarie Group and more importantly provided students of the program with a great experience.”
The next step in the relationship between the two groups will see students visit the Macquarie Group offices for an inside look at how they run their business.
An indoor football match is scheduled for later in the year through the Freshen Up Sports Program.
