ROBERT Murphy has been forced to miss the clash with the Sydney Swans at the SCG, with the creative defender sidelined with groin soreness.

Murphy, 29, is one of three changes to the team ahead of Saturday's crucial clash with the Swans with a strained adductor.

The Age reported on Thursday the club was confident he would require just the one week out of the game.

Josh Hill and Sam Reid were named as the other two omissions on Thursday night.

Jayden Schofield, Nathan Djerrkura and Dylan Addison were all named after solid recent VFL form.

It will be Schofield's third senior game, Djerrkura's sixth for the Bulldogs and Addison's first since round eight.

"Hopefully those three players can [perform] on the small ground, as well as with the conditions," coach Rodney Eade told Bulldogs TV on Thursday night.

"There's been a lot of rain, a lot of water, so it's going to be a tough contested game.

"In the past, we've coped really well with those conditions so we're looking forward to it."

The weather forecast is predicting rain in Sydney for the next four days, and a top of 17 degrees for Saturday.

Eade said while there hadn't been many highlights from the Dogs' 31-point loss to North Melbourne last Sunday evening, Callan Ward's performance had given him something to smile about.

He also said he expected a positive reception for former Saint and Swan Barry Hall, who will play his final game at the SCG after he announced his retirement during the week.

"He'll make his return to the SCG so I've got no doubt that the public support will be on and will be behind him," he said.

"He's a very well revered and loved figure in Sydney so he will get a nice welcome."

The game will also mark the 150th career milestone of defender Dale Morris, who Eade described as a player that constantly showed "courage and leadership", and who had "been integral" in holding the defence together.

Meanwhile, the Swans have made one change with Jude Bolton available after missing two weeks with a knee injury.

Jesse White has been omitted.
